RE: Thoughts on transmisson temp

Advice I got from my dealer mechanic was that as a "rule of thumb", expect tranny temps to be 100-degrees above ambient, and if you happen to exceed 250-degrees for any length of time (over 15 minutes) change out the oil soon after.

RE: Average Speed on the Highway

I generally average just above 60MPH (maybe 63) when traveling long distances on limited access (Interstate) highways. This happens to be where my truck seems to obtain the best MPG.
(The above does NOT factor in rest/meal stops; it only includes time actually rolling on down the road.)

I guess I don't understand the problem. It's working like I'd expect it to. At least that's how all of mine have worked over the years.

RE: Questions regarding buying an F250 PS or GM equivalent

Personally I think ..... GM has quality issues
What do you think those issues are?
My last three new trucks (01, 03, and 08) have all been Chevs. Between the three I've racked up just under 325,000 miles so far, much of it heavy pulling, and no "quality issues" have arisen.

RE: Questions regarding buying an F250 PS or GM equivalent

We recently went through the "shopping for a new tow vehicle" experience. Shopped all three brands, Ford, GM, Dodge, and decided that the perfect truck would have a Cummins (Dodge) engine, a GM frame/suspension, a Ford cabin, and an Allison transmission.
Quite honestly, there isn't a lot of difference in the three brands. We ended up in a GM primarily for the Allison transmission, and because of good experience in a previous Chev. But we'd have been happy in any of them.

RE: Dumping Charge..is this fair?

I don't see it as a rip off.
They arrived at a price at which they're willing to let you use their facility. If you don't feel it's a fair price, then you go elsewhere. Pretty simple economics.

RE: Favorite Tucson Area Resorts

There's not much "beauty" in the traditional sense in any of the Tucson parks.
For the widest range of activities, Voyagers RV Resort would be hard to beat. Also well located to reach the many great things to see/do in Tucson area. May fill fast, due to gem show in February.

RE: USAA EXPANDS MEMBERSHIP

I also have noticed that Navy Federal CU has opened up to the public.
Not true.
It is NOT open to "the public".
The recent change at NFCU was to include Army, Air Force, National Guard, and Department of Defense civilian employees. (Previously had been only Navy and Marines.)

RE: Dodge vs. GMC vs Ford 3500

SRW has greater load capacity than DRW....
Never happen, no how/no way. Using Chev/GMC 3500HD SRW vs DRW, the DRW will carry almost 1,000# MORE cargo weight than the SRW:
SRW = 3880
DRW = 4863

RE: Dodge vs. GMC vs Ford 3500

I shopped all three brands, and decided the perfect truck would be a Cummins engine in front of an Allison transmission on a GM chassis with a Ford cabin. The Allison transmission was the thing that finally put me in a Chev 3500HD. I like white ones too.

RE: 30 or 50 amps

A 1993 model TT isn't likely to have 50-amp wiring, so you'll want a site with 30 amp hookups (most 50 amp sites also have 30 amp connections).
I don't think your A/C comes out the floor vents as I see a standard roof-mount A/C in the photo.
Thanks, that helps a lot.
Could it have both? When we looked at it I'm 99.9% sure cold air was coming out of the floor vents.
I've been wrong before.:W:B
It could have both (there have been "basement" air conditioners introduced in the past 3-4 years), but the second A/C would have to be an add-on done by the owner.

RE: 30 or 50 amps

It looks used.
What does it have 30 or 50?
Or do you mean you want to change from a 30 amp to a 50 amp
and were asking which is better?
It's a 1993, the place we are going to park it has either 30 or 50.
I have no idea if it's 30 or 50.
I know 50 is better but wondered if 30 was OK.

RE: is a 2 1/2" receiver ok when 2" is asked for??

The new Silverado's come with a Class V receiver (2.5-inches), but there should have been a reducer sleeve in the glove box to allow use of 2" hitches. Or you could use a 2.5-inch hitch just fine.

RE: 2001 Chevy 2500 w/ Duramax

I had an '03 (same engine/tranny as the '01). Ran it to 138,000 miles and it was a literal horse.
Needed a little more passenger room and came across a great deal, so now have an '08, but in some respects wish I still had the '03.

RE: SD Registrations and New SD tax being considered

The idea makes perfect sense to me. If you drive a lot, you pay a lot of road tax. If you don't drive a lot, you don't pay a lot. Heavy vehicles should pay more than light vehicles. What could be more fair?

RE: Not your basic gas vs. diesel question

The fuel costs right now are about a wash. Diesel is more expensive, but you get more MPG.
Right now the prices of gas vs diesel are "upside down". When they get back to normal, there is some additional argument for diesel.

RE: WW Rear Door Mystery Switch

I had an "unknown function" wall switch like that in one of my homes. For years I'd ocassionally flip it up and down a few times, just to see if I could discover what it controlled.
Finally, one day out of the blue I got a phone call from a lady in Germany who told me to knock it off.
